Abstract

Wolf Gallery is an offline gallery that keeps your photos and videos encrypted on the device. Each file is stored as ciphertext in the app's private storage, so other apps and the system only ever see encrypted data. Files are decrypted on demand. That includes sharing to another app and setting a wallpaper, so media is not written out in the clear. You can use it as your main gallery or keep it next to the stock one as a private vault. Development is active and ongoing. = Security = * Every file is encrypted in an isolated vault inside the app's private storage. * No INTERNET permission. No accounts, no cloud, no telemetry, no trackers. The app cannot reach the network. * AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption, so tampering is detected on decryption. * Argon2id password-based key derivation (the memory-hard Password Hashing Competition winner). The passphrase is never stored. * The vault key is wrapped with an Argon2id key on top of the hardware-backed Android Keystore, so both the device and your password or PIN are needed to decrypt. * Quantum-resistant by design: the vault is symmetric-only (AES-256), with no asymmetric key exchange. There is nothing for Shor's algorithm to break, and "harvest now, decrypt later" does not apply to a local vault. Against Grover's algorithm AES-256 keeps about 128-bit strength. * Native C/C++ crypto core that zeroes key material in memory after use. * FLAG_SECURE blocks screenshots and Recents previews. Wrong unlock attempts are slowed by exponential backoff, with an optional wipe after a set number of failures. * An in-app self-test screen runs the crypto, file-format and migration checks on the device. = Organize = * Groups and albums created inside the app. * Rename with emoji and symbols. * Sort, search and pin groups, albums and files. * Album covers from any picture, with adjustable framing. * Import and export on your terms. * Share to other apps and set as wallpaper directly from the vault. = Appearance = * Several themes, including pure-black dark modes, with a custom accent color. * Adjustable grid density, rounded or square thumbnails, and a top- or bottom-placed action bar. = Other = * Built-in trash with undo. * First-run setup wizard. * Available in several languages, with more translations in progress. Part of Wolf Project. Open-source, offline, no accounts.
